The Veterans Writing Community is a program started at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, whose mission is to encourage active military, veterans, and their families to explore writing as a form of self-expression, to provide a venue for veterans to rhetorically discuss hard topics, and to offer a method of publication for veterans who want to be heard.
Our goals are to provide opportunities for veterans to engage in creative writing, to create visibility for veteran artists and their work, to give support in the exploration of writing as a transformative tool, and to share the truth about veterans' experiences. Through this process, we hope to help student veterans bridge the gap between their military service and their own autonomy and individuality.
